A cracked iPhone screen is the most common repair we see at our Utica Ave shop. The question we hear right after “how much?” is usually: “Is it even worth fixing?” In most cases the answer is yes — but not always. Here’s how to decide.
Why you shouldn’t ignore a cracked screen
- Cracks spread. Temperature changes, pocket pressure and small drops make a hairline crack grow across the display.
- Dust and moisture get in. A broken screen seal lets debris and humidity reach the internals.
- Touch problems start. Damaged glass can cause ghost touches, dead zones or a screen that stops responding.
- It can cut you. Loose glass splinters are a real hazard, especially for kids.
When repairing is the smart choice
Repair almost always makes sense when the rest of the phone works well — the battery holds a charge, it runs current iOS, and you’re happy with it. A screen replacement costs a fraction of a new iPhone, and at our shop iPhone screen repair starts from $79 depending on the model. Most screens are replaced the same day, often while you wait.
When it may not be worth it
- The phone has other serious problems too (board damage, heavy water damage, a failing battery and a broken back).
- It’s a very old model that no longer receives iOS updates and you were planning to upgrade anyway.
- The repair price is close to what the phone is worth. In that case we’ll tell you honestly — we can also talk about trading it in.
Screen protector vs. screen replacement
If only your screen protector is cracked, you’re in luck — just replace the protector. If you see the crack underneath, or touch isn’t working right, the display itself needs replacing.
The bottom line
For most people, fixing a cracked iPhone screen is worth it: it’s faster and much cheaper than replacing the phone, and it stops small damage from turning into a bigger repair. Not sure?
