An iPhone that won’t charge is stressful, but the cause is often simple. Try these checks before booking a repair.
1. Try a different cable and adapter
Cables fray and adapters fail. Test with a cable and power adapter you know work with another device.
2. Look inside the charging port
Use a flashlight. Pocket lint packs into the port over time and stops the cable from seating fully. If the cable feels loose or won’t click in, lint is a likely cause. Avoid metal objects — they can damage the contacts. A professional cleaning is quick.
3. Restart the iPhone
Software glitches can stop charging. A restart is free and takes a minute.
4. Check for a liquid warning
If you see a “Liquid Detected” alert, unplug it and let the port dry. Don’t override it repeatedly.
5. Is it the battery?
A very worn or damaged battery can refuse to charge or drop percentage quickly. Check Battery Health in Settings.
Still not charging?
The port may be damaged, or there may be a fault on the logic board. Bring it to Avenue D Cellular in Brooklyn for a free inspection — see iPhone charging port repair, from $59.
